Wonderful that you are still using a CollecTin More 3G model (pre Nov-21) to raise funds. While your unit is no longer is no longer under warranty or support, you can use the following steps to reset and update various parts of your unit:

1. Reinstalling the Give A Little App from the website via Support icon (when the Give A Little app doesn't update)
2. Reset SumUp Bluetooth (when the SumUp and Give A Little app do not connect / communicate)
3. Firmware Update for SumUp (if prompted)
4. 3G Model Hard Factory Reset (if above steps didn't solve the issue try this and repeat steps 1 and 2)

The CollecTin More units are modular, so you can also purchase different parts to upgrade the unit if required.

Upgrade your tablet

If necessary, rather than replacing your CollecTin More, you can upgrade your CollecTin More by purchasing a new tablet for £200. The new 4G A12 tablet has a faster processor (so it loads videos more quickly) and 5GHz Wi-Fi. The upgrade also includes a new SumUp tray, internal cabling and new charger plug. The tablet upgrade is available in the online shop here for card payments. If you would prefer to pay via BACS, please contact support@collectin.com with the details as specified at the bottom of this guide.

To reinstall the app:

  • Swipe from the bottom on the Android device to bring up the list of available apps
  • Find the Give A Little app
  • Press and hold the app icon until it offers you a series of options
  • Without releasing the finger slightly slide it upwards, this will immediately allow you to drop the icon in the home screen

2. Reset SumUp

Resetting the card reader requires power to be turned off - this can be achieved by either removing the battery from the handle (use your thumbnail in the slot along the back of the handle, to push down on the top of it - it will then slide down out of the handle).
or removing the reader from the cradle

To reset you then:
1. press the button on the right of the card reader for a couple of seconds until it is off
2. release the button,
3. press the button again for several tens of seconds...
4. in this time the screen will be black, and then say "hold for BT" / "hold for reset" followed by "release for BT" / "hold for reset"
5. when "release for BT" / "hold for reset" pops up it is time to let go of the button.
6 the sumup should beep

You can now replace the SumUp/Power and on the GiveALittle app menu press "Connect Device"

3. SumUp Air Card Reader Firmware Update (If prompted after SumUp reset & reconnect)

SumUp have recently released updated firmware for their Air card reader. You will need to run this update to connect SumUp card readers to your CollecTin More and the Give A Little app. The firmware update can also make a big difference if you have issues with transactions being declined.

When running the Firmware update via the Give A Little app, there are some confusing failure notices, however do not be discouraged and follow the steps below. The firmware will happen and card reader connect via bluetooth to the android tablet in your CollecTin More.

On the Give a Little menu  > Connect Terminal  > Choose your reader  > Connect  > Firmware Update Prompt  > OK

The first part usually takes about 20min, and the SumUp display will show "Updating Firmware". This will continue until One minute to go.

Shortly after this point the screen is likely to display "The update has failed"  > Abort update (NOT Retry)
Back on the Give a Little menu  > Connect Terminal  > Choose your reader  > Connect

Firmware Update Prompt  > OK. This second part takes about 5 minutes.
Towards the end the SumUp is likely to briefly beep softly and display "UPDATING FW... OK SumUp"
(However this is very quick and may be missed and in some instances also appeared towards the end of the first 20 minute download)

There are two option at this stage.
> You may again have another "The update has failed" message. If this happens, go to the Give A Little menu again, and follow the steps to prompt the firmware update again. From here it will go to the following steps
> Message appears "Checking firmware updates", followed by "Connected".
Your bluetooth connection between the SumUp and Give A Little is established.

Well done for completing this confusing Firmware update!
