Quickstart Steps
Resource: Step by Step Photo Guide
- Download the step by step photo guide attached at the bottom of this article, which takes you through all the steps described below
1. Set up your power supply
- Unbox your CollecTin Solo and take out all components
- Plug the USB port of the Static 3m charger cable into the charging plug, and plug this into mains power
- Insert the white plastic end into the handle of your CollecTin Solo
- [IF you have purchased an optional Booster Battery] pre-charge the Booster battery outside of the unit and insert when you are ready to go collecting. The Solo card reader battery lasts approximately 4 hours, adding the booster battery should lengthen this to approximately 7 hours depending on use
2. Insert your SumUp Solo card reader into your CollecTin Solo
- Take the Solo card reader out of its cradle and remove the screen protector.
- Press the power button on the right side of the card reader and wait a few seconds for it to turn on.
- Open the lid on your CollecTin Solo and insert the small black charging cable into the bottom of the card reader. Place the card reader in the top of the CollecTin Solo.
- Use the frame to secure the Solo card reader. Place the frame in position with the thick/broader side at the bottom, making sure to line up the 6 tabs.
- Click the frame into place by pressing down firmly on both sides simultaneously with your thumbs - until all 6 tabs have clicked into place and the Solo card reader cannot be lifted out.
3. Set up your CollecTin Solo
- Press the arrow in the black bar of the welcome screen to start your set up.
- Select the language you wish to use, press the arrow in the black bar once selected.
- On the “How will you use your Solo?” screen, select “Wi-Fi & mobile data”.
- Select Wifi and Mobile Data to use standalone. [Note: The SumUp Solo includes data and prefers wifi for updates]
- Select your Wi-Fi network and enter your Wi-fi password when prompted.
- A message may pop up to say there is no connection, ignore this.
- Log into your SumUp account.
- You will be asked to “Update your software” - select “Update” in the black bar.
- The update will run in the background while you continue to set up as explained below.
- Tap on the down arrow (v) in the top center of the screen to access your Menu.
- Tap “About” and write down your serial number below for your records. You will need this for warranty purposes
4. Set up donation amount options on you CollecTin Solo
- Tap on the down arrow (v) in the top center of the screen to access your Menu.
- Tap “Payment options”, then “Fixed Prices”, and toggle on the switch in the top right corner of the screen.
- Tap “Add a fixed price” and enter the first amount you want donors to choose from. Repeat this four times, giving your donors a range of amounts to choose from.
- If you need to remove an amount, tap the bin icon next to it.
- Once your four amounts are set up, tap the back arrow (<) in the top left corner to navigate back to your Payment Options screen.
- Note: You have the option to set between 1 - 4 amounts for donors to choose from.
- Tap on “VAT” and check that the switch is toggled off and no VAT is being applied.
- Tap the back arrow (<) in the top left corner twice to navigate back to your Menu.
- Tap “Settings”, then “Display & Brightness”. Recommended display settings:
- Brightness: 100% if your CollecTin Solo is connected to mains power; 50% to save battery if you are using your CollecTin Solo as a mobile device
- Auto-Lock: Scroll down and select “never” if your CollecTin Solo is connected to mains power - this will ensure the screen never goes into sleep mode. If your CollecTin Solo is attended by a team member or volunteer, you can select for it to go into sleep mode when not in use for a few minutes - a tap on the screen will wake it up again.
- Tap the back arrow (<) in the top left corner twice to navigate back to your Menu, then tap the up arrow (^) at the bottom of your screen to go to your donation/ask screen. Your pre-set donation amounts should now be displayed.
- Close your CollecTin Solo top.
5. Finish installing updates
- A tool icon should appear to indicate “Solo needs an update”. Tap on the “Install” button to allow this
- The installation takes +- 6 minutes. At times the graphic on the screen might pause or look frozen, do not switch the Solo off as installation needs to complete.
- The CollecTin Solo will restart after the installation is complete and should return to your donation/ask screen, showing the pre-set donation amounts.
- Note: After an update restart, you always need to reset the Auto-lock settings as explained in step 4 above.
7. Make a test donation
- Choose an amount you wish to donate, or tap on “Keypad” at the bottom center of your screen to enter your own custom amount.
- You can either tap a card/phone/watch on the top of the reader to complete the transaction, or lift the lid and insert the card from the top to use the chip and pin if prompted.
- You can request a receipt after a successful donation: tap the email or phone icon at the bottom of your screen and enter your email or phone number.
- Tap “Done” after a successful donation to return to the donation/ask screen.
- Tap the bin icon in the top right of the screen to cancel a transaction.
- Note: The CollecTin Solo will not process transactions when the battery reaches 5% or lower.
